Multiverse® Node

City Theatrical's Multiverse® Node is the first building block of the Multiverse system.

Each Multiverse Node is a transceiver. As a single universe transmitter, it functions in a similar plug and play manner to the Multiverse® SHoW Baby® and legacy SHoW DMX SHoW Baby® products, and also has a full user interface, with four buttons and a backlit LCD display. As a receiver, the Multiverse Node is the primary single universe standalone receiver in the Multiverse system, and can be part of a larger multi-universe setup.

The Multiverse Node 2.4GHz (P/N 5903) contains a 2.4GHz radio and can be used worldwide.

Additional Information

  • mDMX (Multiverse SHoW IDs only)
mDMX is a form of DMX optimized for wireless broadcast that dramatically reduces data being broadcast, thereby reducing unneeded radio energy.

  • mRDM (Multiverse SHoW IDs only)
Multiverse is able to broadcast RDM information without disrupting the DMX broadcast. This feature is not available even in wired RDM systems.

  • SHoW Key Security (Multiverse SHoW IDs only)
SHoW Key is an additional three-digit code that can be added to the Multiverse SHoW ID that will prevent any other system set on the same SHoW ID from interfering with your system.

  • Forward Error Correction (Multiverse SHoW IDs only)
Allows the Receiver to detect and correct errors that may occur in the wireless transmission of data.

  • Ultra Low Latency
Total average system latency of 4ms.

  • User Selectable Adaptive Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping
Adaptive Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping identifies and masks off hopping channels that contain interference, replacing them in the hop sequence with alternate channels.

  • Adjustable Output Power
Sometimes an application calls for the most available broadcast power, but many entertainment systems can utilize lower output power to reduce detrimental effects on other radio systems in the venue, reduce reflections, and improve performance.

  • User Selectable SHoW IDs
City Theatrical has always produced wireless DMX products that allowed the user to select the optimum transmission method. Users may select full bandwidth hopping, hopping limited to a section of the spectrum (including areas of the spectrum outside of the Wi-Fi range), or adaptive hopping.

  • Protocols supported: ANSI E1.11 DMX512-A; E1.20 RDM

  • Compatible with all Multiverse and SHoW DMX Neo products

  • User can select a single universe to receive

  • A very simple user interface to set SHoW ID and universe

  • RDM proxy and responder functions

  • DMX 5-pin in and out/thru ports

  • Rugged cast aluminium enclosure

  • Antenna; Omni Broadband 2.4GHz, 4dBI (P/N 5903)

  • Auto-selection of transmit or receive mode

  • Firmware updateable via USB port

  • CL2 power supply with locking connector

  • Built-in auto select DMX512 termination

  • Selectable display timeout and brightness level

pdf RadioScan Spectrum Analyzer at Company on Broadway Ever wonder what it’s like to ensure mission critical fidelity of your wireless DMX system every night for a Broadway show? We talked to Kevin Barry, Production Electrician for Company, which opened at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City on December 9, 2021. Here’s what we learned about his experience using tools like RadioScan® Spectrum Analyzer to scan local frequencies in real time to optimize the performance of his Multiverse wireless DMX/RDM system during each production.
pdf Multiverse wireless DMX/RDM at The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is an annual event at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton, New York that spans 6,000 hand carved Jack O’Lanterns over 12 acres of historic buildings and landscape. City Theatrical’s Multiverse wireless DMX technology was selected based on its ability to broadcast multiple universes from a single transmitter even in mission-critical situations, like Broadway-style shows and installations. The windmill used four Multiverse SHoW Baby units only, and the carousel used a Multiverse Transmitter with four SHoW Baby units.
pdf Multiverse Wireless DMX/RDM at Super Bowl LIVE at Bayfront Park in Miami, Florida City Theatrical’s Multiverse wireless DMX/RDM technology was selected and used to divide Bayfront Park into six separate wireless DMX zones. One Multiverse Transmitter 900MHz/2.4GHz unit was used for each zone, each used with a Panel Antenna. The lighting installation team set up multiple Multiverse Nodes, all with a Yagi antenna, within each zone for a total of 20 Nodes throughout the park. All antennas were set up on the truss towers around the park to maximize the distance of the wireless broadcast and reception.
pdf Multiverse Transmitter and Nodes at Hadestown on Broadway City Theatrical’s Multiverse Transmitter operating in the 900MHz band was selected to meet this challenge. The Multiverse Transmitter provided DMX data to battery powered headlamps. A Multiverse Node used as a transmitter and operating on a SHoW DMX Neo SHoW ID also broadcast to QolorFlex Dimmers used in the show.
pdf Multiverse wireless DMX/RDM on CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell City Theatrical’s Multiverse wireless DMX technology was selected based on its ability to broadcast multiple universes from a single transmitter in mission-critical situations, like live broadcast television. Using the 2.4GHz band, the Multiverse Transmitter is being used to broadcast two universes of wireless DMX data from above a small wall-mounted rack in the studio, which includes several ETC nodes, switches, and a power strip. The transmitter is wirelessly connected to 13 Multiverse Nodes, which are each connected to a Chauvet, Desisti, Gantom, or Lumos fixture. The team was able to set up the studio with a single DMX cable and external cables for the camera rig only
